Priced per cut. It gets cheaper per acre as the field gets bigger.

Most of the cost of a small field is getting there and getting the machine off the trailer. Spread that over twenty acres instead of five and the per-acre number comes down — so that's how we price it.

A first cut of the season on ground that hasn’t been touched in a year takes longer than a maintenance cut, and we’ll say so before we start rather than after. Steep ground, wet ground, heavy cedar or anything we have to work around gets quoted on the property.

How the schedule works

Twice a year holds most ground. Four times keeps it looking kept.

Two cuts — usually late spring and late summer — stops a field turning into scrub. Three or four keeps it looking like somebody owns it. Which one you want depends on whether anybody sees it.

We’re booking acreage for the coming season now. First cuts go out in spring, once the ground is dry enough to carry a machine without tearing it up.

Straight about it

Cutting only. We're not clearing land.

This is mowing — rough-cutting standing grass, weeds and light brush. It isn’t grading, it isn’t taking out trees, and it isn’t clearing ground for anything to be built on. Those are different machines and, past a certain size, a different licence.

If what you actually need is land cleared, say so and we’ll point you at somebody set up for it rather than taking the job and working it out later.
