Pull weeds after it rains
Clay lets go of roots when it's damp. Pull the day after a rain and the whole root comes out instead of snapping off and coming back.

A cut edge beats plastic edging
A spade-cut trench a few inches deep keeps grass out of the bed and mulch out of the lawn. Re-cut it once or twice a year and it holds its line.

Skip the landscape fabric
Mulch breaks down on top of the fabric, weeds root into that, and the fabric ends up tangled in everything. A thick layer of mulch does the job better.

Cut liriope back in late winter
Monkey grass looks ragged by February. Cut it low before the new shoots come up in March, or you'll be trimming the tips off this year's growth.

How deep should mulch be in flower beds?
Two to three inches, pulled back from trunks and stems. Adding a fresh layer every year on top of the old one is how beds end up a foot deep.
Is the mulch included in the price?
The labour is a flat Half Day or Full Day price. Mulch is quoted as its own line, so you can see exactly what the material costs.
Do you spray the beds for weeds?
No. Spraying for money takes a licence we don't hold. We pull weeds by hand and keep the beds edged and mulched so fewer come back.
