If nothing comes on, look at the GFCI outlet the transformer plugs into, then the timer. Power flickers reset timers, and a tripped GFCI looks exactly like a dead system.

Lights getting dimmer the farther they are from the transformer usually means too many fixtures on one run or cable too thin for the distance.

The clip-on piercing connectors that come with a lot of kits let water in and corrode. Gel-filled waterproof connectors last far longer in wet ground.

A shrub growing over the photocell makes the system think it's dark all day or light all night. Trim around it.
Questions
Usually a failed splice or a cut wire on that run. Everything past the break goes dark while everything before it keeps working.
Often, yes, by swapping the bulbs on the existing fixtures. LEDs also take load off the transformer, which can fix dim lights at the end of a run.
No. We repair and replace parts of systems that are already in the ground. A new system designed from scratch isn't something we take on.
