Stay well back from any wire on the ground or tangled in a fallen tree, and keep everyone else back too. Call the utility before anyone touches that tree. A line can be energized with no sound, no arc and nothing to see.

A broken limb caught in the canopy can come down hours later with no wind and no warning. Don't park, work or let anyone stand under one, and point it out to whoever comes to clear the yard.

Pictures of what fell, where it landed and what it hit take five minutes and are the record you'll want when you call anyone about it. Once the yard is cleared, the evidence is gone.

A cracked trunk or a limb torn off with bark stripped down the stem won't close over. Planning that removal now is a calmer job than doing it in the dark after the next round of straight-line winds.

Debris piled in the gutter blocks the storm drain right when the next rain arrives. Stack it on the lawn well back from the curb, or have it hauled.
